ENDING OF PART 1
At night, my dad sat on my bed. “Ok, this is the last time I am checking under your bed. Please know this is for your best because I love you.” I smiled, and my dad checked under the bed. I heard a scream, then I groan, then a slither. What was going on in there? I looked under. My dad wasn’t there. I only saw toys lying. “Dad?” I asked.
PART 2
No. This can’t happen. I’m having a dream. I’m scared. I’m really scared. Lillian, monsters aren’t real, it’s just a bad, BAD dream. I flipped over onto my bed and closed my eyes.
“LILLY! COME ON! GET UP!” I heard my mom yell from the kitchen. I sat up and laughed at myself. I think my fear of “monsters” have banished. What I thought was real, was just a dream. My dad didn’t get eaten by a monster! What was I thinking?! I ran to the kitchen and hugged my mom. “LILLIAN! Are you actually hugging me?” My mom exclaimed. I nodded. “Yes, mom. I did. You know how you always tease me?” “Yes” “Well, I think my fear of monsters has gone away. And I think YOU are the reason why. I love you!” “Aw, sweetie, I love you too. By the way, do you know where your father is? I bet he’s just getting groceries or something.”
I paused. I stared at my mom. My dad - the dream - was it real? No. It couldn’t be. Or … could it? “Umm… uhh…. No idea. I - um - uh - yeah - I - I bet you’re right! Yup, just good ‘ol dad getting groceries.” Mom looked at me suspiciously. “Are you okay? I’ll fix you up some cereal and we can hit the mall.” I nodded quickly and sat down on a chair. As I watched her make the cereal, I thought about dad. I bet he was getting groceries like mom said.
An hour passed by. Make that two hours. No, five hours. Dad was still not here. “Lilly, don’t worry. I’m sure dad went early to work or something. On the bright side, you have the whole day with me!” I smiled weakly. “About that, I - I may have a playdate with Cacy and Melissa” I lied. My mom frowned. “Well, then you can walk to whichever house, and I will go to the mall by myself. If daddy comes home, call me. Love you! Bye!” I waved my hand and ran to my room.
As I heard my mom shut the door, I yelled, “DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD!!!!!!!” I know that was a stupid thing to do because it’s not like my dad would come out of nowhere and be like - “Hi sweetie, what did you call me for?” But it was worth a try. It was silent for a second, but then I felt something. It was a hand brushing my knee. I looked down. The hand was tan and hairy. My dad’s hand! I thought. But many hands look like that. I mean Cacy’s dad’s hand is like that, so as Melissa’s, and almost everyone at our school. Other dads have even longer hairs or even COLORED hairs! Wait, remind me why I am talking about hands?
“DAD, IF THAT’S YOU. TELL ME YOUR OK.” I yelled. “I’m -” The hand was being pulled back under the bed. “Ok,” and the hand disappeared. Oh my gosh, monsters are real. MONSTERS ARE REAL. This is crazy. THIS IS CRAZY. I ran out of my house, to Melissa’s. My hair was messy, I was still in my pajamas, and there were lines under my eyes. Melissa opened the door. “Lilly? MY Lillian? MY FRIEND Lillian? The Lillian I shared Doritos with in first grade? Eww. This must be serious because you always wake up at 10:00 and it’s nine.” Melissa exclaimed. I nodded my head like a maniac. Cacy walked up to the door. “YOU’RE here too? Why didn’t you invite me?” I asked. “Like Melissa said, you wake up at ten. BTW my dog died. Have sympathy.” “Oh no! Little Dum Dum died! I have some bad news too…” Dum Dum is Cacy’s dog. “Ok, first take a shower. You smell like rotten cheese!” I agreed. I ran back home and took a quick shower and ran back to Melissa’s house.
“Your dad got eaten by monsters?!” Cacy screamed. “Well, that’s what I think. But what I know for sure, is he got kidnapped by one. Or maybe more!” I said. “Lillian, snap out of it. That CAN’T be true. And I choose NOT to believe you.” Melissa answered. “WELL, I’m not lying. My dad talked to me! He said he’s ok! But we need to save him. Put your hand in if you agree with me!” Out of three of us, only I put my hand in. I waited for five minutes. I finally got Cacy’s hand. But I knew Melissa wouldn’t relent. “Ok, if I’m lying, you can pour ice cold water on my head three times.” “Make it five,” Melissa argued. I rolled my eyes and nodded. THEN, Melissa put her hand in. “On my count, Dad. 1, 2, 3,” I said. “DAD!!!!!” We all yelled. “What’s going on in there? A second ago you two were moping over Dum Dum!” Melissa’s mom walked in. I laughed.
We all ran to my house to investigate. “As scary as this is, it’s kinda cool. We're like mini-detectives!” Cacy smiled. Melissa paid no attention and immediately went to work. She crawled under my bed and I threw a flashlight at her. “What - Is that hair?” Melissa said. I laughed weakly. Melissa groaned and went deeper. “Hey! I found a -” I listened closely. All I heard was a rattle and slither. “Cacy, did you hear that?!” Cacy nodded and slapped her hands on her face. “Where did she go?!” Cacy burst into tears. I looked under the bed. There was a hole. “MELISSA!!!!!!” I screamed. Cacy cleared her face and looked at the floor. Suddenly, a hand slid out under the bed. Then another hand grabbed Cacy ’s leg. I grabbed the hand and pulled Melissa up.
Melissa explained how this thing pulled her into the hole she found. She saw a glimpse of my dad, who was locked in a chamber sort of thing. The hole was closing but Melissa found her way out. I put my two pointer fingers together and muted my ears from Melissa and Cacy’s conversation. Two days before, when I checked under my bed, there was no hole. The hole must’ve closed. But twenty-four hours later, the hole opened. Every twenty-four hours the hole opens! Oh my gosh! I figured it out! I figured the secret to the whole thing! I can save my dad! “YAY!” I blurted out. “Uhh… Lillian? Were you listening to us? I SAID - I heard the monsters talking about how the hole will close forever tomorrow!” Melissa exclaimed.
“Also, I connected all the dots when my ears were muted,” I explained what I found out, and we all decided on a plan. We would go in the hole tonight and save dad. Then we will go back out of the hole and the whole monster thing is over. It’s a win-win! “But, our parents … What will they say?!” Cacy pointed out. I nodded. Suddenly, I heard the door open. “LILLIAN!? ARE YOU HERE? IS DAD HOME?” That was my mom’s voice. I ran up to the door while Melissa and Cacy stayed behind in my room. “Hey, mom! Can I have a sleepover?” I asked. “Oh! Sure!” My mom replied I hugged her and ran to my room. Cacy and Melissa were asking their parents if they could have a sleepover. Hopefully, this plan would work. There were so many risks! What if we didn’t get my dad back in time? What if my mom called Melissa or Cacy’s parents? They would all think we were lost! I was so scared. I must’ve looked pretty worried, cause Cacy told me after, “Lilly, calm down. We can do it! I’m scared too, but as long as we’re together, we safe.” “Oh, that’s so corny. Technically, we most likely CAN’T do it. And we’re not safe even if together. True facts. ” Melissa said acting like she was the smartest in the group. I burst into tears. I was at risk of DYING! Cacy hugged me. Cacy started stomping her feet. “Your daddy will be saved! BUM BUM BUM. YOUR DADDY WILL BE SAVED! BUM BUM BUM.”
Cacy could act like a baby sometimes. This was one of her major baby moments. Cacy added, “YOUR DAAAAAAAA-” “Ok, you can stop now” I laughed.
At 9:00, Melissa texted me, “2nite is the night.” Two minutes later, she appeared in my room with Cacy. We all smiled excitedly for the new adventure. I went under the bed first. Before I could find the hole, I was being pulled down into an underground hideout sort of thing. When I started walking, Melissa and Cacy fell down on me. “AHHH! That hurt!” I screamed. “Sorry,” Cacy apologized. Melissa, as she is, continued down the path. “Follow me” Melissa murmured. We followed her into a place that looked like a fairy tale jail. My dad was in one of the chambers crying. I gasped. My dad never cries. This place must be REALLY bad. “Dad! We’ll get you out! I promise!” I whisper shouted. My dad jumped up, surprised to hear a human’s voice. “Lillian! Oh my dear, Lillian!” He whimpered, as he tried to hug me. But the bars of the chamber stopped him. I heard footsteps. Melissa, Cacy, and I hid behind the pot sort of thing.
“Roasting Time. First thing tomorrow. Yes, sir DIE! Yum Yum” One of the monsters said. I was confused. Roasting time? Sir die? Who was sir? Wait, was that my dad?! Oh no! I looked at my friends. Cacy fainted by shock, and Melissa was trying not to laugh. I was mad. Did any of them care that my dad was going to get ROASTED tomorrow!? I could hear my dad pretending to snore as he pretends to sleep. I wanted to cry, I HAD too. But that was unreasonable. I’m twelve years old, why can’t I just be confident that I WILL save my dad?!
“ROASTING TIME TODAY” Another monster argued. “We need to PLAN OUT ye CEREMONY” I couldn’t help but smirk. A ceremony? Seriously? If I were these monsters I would just kill the man and get done with it!
During the night I slept behind that pot with Cacy and Melissa. In the morning we figured out a plan.
“Ok, so we bust into the party and get your father” Melissa smiled.
“Are you kidding? We are NOT doing that. This isn’t a movie or something. I already have a STRATEGIC plan. STRATEGIC always wins” I boasted.
“Wow, you really can make any cool thing nerdy” Melissa groaned. I rolled my eyes and explained my plan.
The opening of the hole is right before the ceremony, so we needed to get my dad out of here before the monsters take him into wherever the ceremony is. “The lock is right there, so we get a hold of it, take my dad out, and finally, when the monsters are about to eat us alive, we jump in the hole. The hole closed forever and we are happy. THERE. DONE. Easy and strategic. ” “I like the idea. But there are still so many risks” Cacy said. I rubbed my fingers against my chin. “Good point” I replied. This was the only way. I’d rather risk my life to get my dad AND my friends and I out, than to stay HERE and all get eaten by the monsters.
Right before the ceremony, Cacy grabbed the keys. I unlocked the chamber my dad was in and he scrambled out. Melissa came running to where we were and told us the monsters were coming to get my dad. We all smiled at each other proud of what we accomplished and slid down the hole. YAY! A HAPPY ENDING! Or not.
One of the monsters pulled my body out of the hole, and I watched it close forever. All I knew was this was going to be the last moment of my life.
