“Kaylee! What were we talking about?” Kaylee opened her eyes. She remembered she was at school. “Umm… Greek -- myths? No. Greek legends? Or Urban myths?” Kaylee responded. The whole class started laughing. “Wrong, wrong, and wrong? Where did you get Greek myths from? We are talking about Urban legends. You need to start listening Kaylee, this will be on you test.” Kaylee’s teacher, Mrs. Clark said.
Kaylee Bao was a young twelve year old girl. She had black hair and green eyes. Kaylee’s parents was divorced, so it was all up to her dad to take care of her. She usually scared little kids, such as Kaylee’s two year old sister Miley. Kaylee wasn’t a very good listener, she hated school, and liked to sleep.
Again, Kaylee felt drowsy and wanted to go to sleep. Her friend Lucy nudged her. Kaylee stood straight up and groaned. Lucy Clay was the opposite of Kaylee. Lucy had blond hair and brown eyes. She was the teacher’s pet. Lucy was the nicest kid, but was a bit bossy when it came to studying. Little kids adored her.
“As I was saying, I will tell you one short legend.” Kaylee suddenly got a rush of excitement. She loved legends. Kaylee especially liked the scary ones. “The Urbands say, that there is one taxi driver, who never takes people to the places they want. Instead, he takes them to the places they need to go. Now close your books and head to the gym. We will finish math after P.E, and then departure. Kapeesh?” Mrs. Clarke ordered. “Kapeesh!” The class answered.
We headed to the gym. “I sooo want to go in that cab!! With that taxi driver!” Kaylee exclaimed. “Kaylee! Did you listen to a thing? It’s a legend! Legends are not real!” Lucy replied. Kaylee rolled her eyes and walked into the gym. Mr. Carter, the gym teacher, greeted us. Kaylee sat down on the floor and closed her eyes. “KAYLEE! GIVE ME A TWENTY!” Mr. Carter yelled. Kayle sat up and started doing push ups. Mr. Carter wasn’t really that mean, he just hated Kaylee. “Today we’ll do a full game of basketball. And Kaylee will NOT be playing.” The reason why he hated Kaylee, was she slept in class and was the best at all sports. Kaylee beat Mr. Carter twelve times at every sport, and he felt really embarrassed when that happened. Lucy sighed, for she was the worst at gym, and couldn’t do it without Kaylee.
At the end of the day, Kaylee decided to go to Lucy’s. They headed to Lucy’s room straight away. Kaylee wanted to lie down and sleep, but Lucy wouldn’t let her. “This is my house! And we are doing homework!” After homework, Lucy made her study. After studying, Lucy finally let her have a snack. “Lemme guess, Lucy forced you do do your homework first again?” Mrs. Clay laughed. Kaylee nodded. Mrs. Clay looked at Lucy. “What? It’s not my fault I’m so smart!” Lucy said. Mrs. Clay exclaimed, “Lucy!! Stop bragging! Sorry Kaylee.” Lucy rolled her eyes. “Let’s go to your house now that homework’s done.” Lucy smiled.
At Kaylee’s house, Miley hugged Lucy right away. “Sissy!!!” Miley said to Lucy. “Miley!! Stop saying that! Lucy is not your sister!” Miley frowned and ran away. “Hi dad. Can we go to… CVS?”
“CVS? Why possibly do you want to go there?” Shon Bao asked.
“Uhh.. To get note books. Note books for school!” Kaylee lied.
“Oh no you won’t! I know that you’re just going to go for ice cream or something instead!” Mr. Bao said matter - of - factly. “Why can’t you just be like Lucy here?”
Lucy smiled sweetly. Kaylee frowned.
“But Mr. Bao! We finished our homework and studied! Can we please go get ice cream?” Lucy wined. Mr. Bao agreed.
The two girls walked to Baskin Robins. They grabbed two ice cream cones and filled it with the delicious cream. As they ate, Kaylee said she wanted to go in a cab back home. “Why not walk?” Lucy questioned suspiciously.
“Because my legs hurt” Kaylee answered.
“Why not go in an Uber or call your dad?”
“Umm… My dad hates driving, and I don’t have the Uber app!”
“Why don’t you download - Oh whatever. We’ll go in a cab. But remember - Legends are NOT REAL!”
Kaylee could tell she was still scared.
The taxi driver didn’t talk at all, except for when he asked the girls where they were going. Kaylee wasn’t scared, cause taxi drivers usually don’t talk that much. She smiled when she noticed he was going the wrong way. “Kaylee!! Why are you smiling?! He missed your house!” Lucy whispered loudly in Kaylee’s ear. “It’s the legend! It’s real!” Kaylee answered. “Nonsense! He’ll turn around, I hope!” Lucy said. After a while, Kaylee was starting to get scared too. Then, Kaylee calmed down, and thought about where she needed to go. According to the legend, that’s where the taxi driver would take them. Lucy noticed what Kaylee was doing and thought about it too. Finally, the Taxi driver stopped at a house. Kaylee and Lucy walked out, anxious to see who’s house it was. The driver left, and the two girls were alone. “Should we, should we knock on the door?” Lucy asked nervously. “Uhh.. Yeah! This is like - our destiny!” Kaylee beamed.
Kaylee walked toward the house with Lucy grasping her hand tightly. She rang the doorbell.
A slender, attractive woman, opened the door. “Kaylee! My baby! I knew you would come some day!” exclaimed the woman happily. She hugged Kaylee tight. “Uhh.. Are you my mom?”
“Yes. I am your mom”
“What - who - why did you leave me?”
“Ohh… Your father and I, we - the marriage just wasn’t right. Every now and then Shon thought I had an affair with my assistant, we got in fights, he worked to much and didn’t enough time with you and Miley. ” The woman frowned.
“Do you know about the Urban Legend?”
“Yes”
“It was real, but my friend Lucy keeps saying they’re not!”
“Oh sweetie, you friend is right. Legends are not real. And the Urban Legend is not a Legend….”
